Engineering Reviews
A simple view of a common engineering procedure.
A simple view of a common engineering procedure.
The purpose of engineering reviews is to mitigate risks to (a) safety, (b) schedule, and (c) budget.
Have fun. Enjoy the activity. Look for things in the engineering design that you love to see.
During the engineering review, be sure to do these things:
(a) Double check. Look for errors and mistakes. This isn't a checklist activity. It's an experience-based activity.
(b) Checklist. It's a good idea to create a list of things you want to check at an engineering review. In a professional setting, checklist items often include signing release forms and making sure documents are controlled.
(c) Plan. Discuss how you plan to move forward. Where and when will something be made? Is it being expedited? Does anyone want to be notified when it is received? How much money is being spent?
After each review, create a memo or report and email it to anyone interested. It can be a simple form that is filled out during the review, or a casual summary from memory, but you need to a record. Something that you can read on a Saturday morning while drinking a coffee.
